Chapter one: The Hogwarts Express
Winter had all of her belongings packed up and sitting on the silver, metal cart they had received upon their arrival to Kings Cross Station. The date is September 1st, and Winter is so excited for it is the day her parents will see her off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Finally, after what seemed like forever for Winter they were standing in front of the platform. It was the one in between Platforms 9 and 10. The muggles of course couldn’t see it, so they had to be careful when entering. Winter was both excited and nervous, about boarding the Hogwarts express. “Jace, will you please go through first,” Winter asked her older brother who would be a 3rd year this year. “Sure,” replied Jace, he positioned his cart in front of Platform 9 and ¾’s, looked around for muggles and took off for the wall. Winter flinched as he disappeared onto the Platform. “Winter it’s your turn,” called her father. She followed her brother’s example, hoping for the best, Winter ran full force at the wall between Platforms 9 and 10.
A second later, she heard the engine of the train, and knew she had made it through. Winter looked around in awe, she had never expected there to be so many people. She felt a little claustrophobic, but it was okay to her. Winter turned around to her parents, “Mum and Dad, this is it I guess. I love you, and I’ll see you when I come home for the holidays.” Winters mother Lilah wiped her tears away, “Alright Winter. I love you darling. Please write as soon as you have been sorted.” Winter hugged her parents, “I will Mum.” Winter gathered her things and climbed onto the train.
She searched the compartments for Jace, but he was nowhere to be seen. “Darn him,” Winter whispered when finally she found an empty compartment. Winter sat down by herself, she opened her bag and withdrew her charms book. What could a little studying hurt? She could always put it away if someone joined her. Lost in the book, Winter didn’t even acknowledge when a young girl entered her compartment and sat down in the seat across from her. When Winter looked up from her book, the dark haired girl startled her. “Oh bloody hell,” gasped Winter, “Oh you gave me a start.” The girl looked up from the picture she was working on, the girl smiled at Winter and said, “Hello, I am Patience…Patience Malone to be exact. And you are?” Winter’s mouth dropped open, the girl whose name she now knew was most definitely rude. “Well, my name is Winter Wallin.” Patience smiled, “Your father is Aaron? The one who works for the Ministry?” Winter closed her Charms book she had been reading, interested in how this girl knew her father. “Yes, that is my fathers name, and yes he works for the Ministry. How did you know that,” questioned Winter. The girl grinned again obviously enjoying freaking Winter out. Patience giggled, “Girl, do you really not remember me? Think hard Winter.”
Winter thought long and hard but she was almost certain she had never met this girl before. “No sorry. I really do not remember you. Can you please refresh my memory?” Patience sighed, opened up her knapsack and took out what appeared to be a photo album of some sort. Patience opened the book and pointed to a picture of two men. “This is our fathers,” explained Patience. Winters eyes widened and she stood up, “Bloody hell. Oh, bloody hell! Your father is Caleb. THE Caleb Malone?” Patience smiled and closed the photo album, and returned it to her bag. “Yes, my father is Caleb. And I am quite hurt you didn’t recognize me. Our fathers have worked together for years!” Winter felt stupid, she should have recognized Patience, they had seen each other quite a handful of times throughout the years. “Oh! Wow, I feel like such an idiot! I’ve seen you around a half a dozen times a year. This is absolutely crazy! Are you a first year this year,” Winter asked Patience, who was now changing into her Hogwarts robes. “ I am a first year also, Winter. I am going to be in Ravenclaw house. I just know it because none of my family has been any different. So, why should I? Anyway enough about me, what house do you think you will be in? I think Slytherin.” Winter had started changing into her robes, ‘if anyone is going to be in Slytherin it will be you,’ Winter thought to herself. “ Well as you know both of my parents were in Gryffindor, along with my older brother Jace. I am thinking I will also be in the same house. That’s absurd that you think I will be in Slytherin! Me, of all people, in Slytherin.”
The train rolled to a stop and Winter gathered her person items, and turned to Patience. “Have fun being sorted into Slytherin, don’t worry it suits you,” snickered Winter as she exited the train.
