"… We are not close and I’m not going to tell you my whole life’s story, not there’s much to tell…. I’m easily annoyed by people. In fact, I don’t really like people at all… including you. I’d like it very much if everyone would just leave me alone, but it seems to be in human nature to annoy someone who is sitting by themselves whether they want you there or not under the pretense of ‘being nice’ or ‘friendly’.

“My mother tends to ask me the same question a lot: why do you have to be so negative? Because you know what trying to be positive has gotten me? Disappointment, that’s what. I get my hopes up for nothing. So I don’t try anymore. Always expect the worst and you won’t be disappointed when things go wrong… and if things go right you just get a pleasant surprise. There’s nothing wrong with ‘being negative’ at all. I prefer to call it being prepared.

“I have no time for emotional people, their logic is nonexistent. They act on instinct and impulse like wild animals and just make a mess of things. People say I’m cold, but I don’t see the point in being emotional. It’s just a distraction. I want to be the best at everything I do; I can’t lose my focus because someone doesn’t like me, or for any other stupid reason.

“I have endless patience when it comes to accomplishing my goals, but none whatsoever when dealing with people or animals. If you are a hindrance to me then I will do something to remove you from that position. Don’t look at me like that; it’s natural to remove obstacles from your path to make the going easier. I didn’t say I would kill anyone because of it….

“I put everything I have into my every action and will not settle for second best, for half measures. If I fail, I find out why, and I do it again… and again… until I succeed. I am tireless in my drive to become better… to surpass my brother and make my family see that I don’t need to be like him, because I am BETTER than him…. Everything came so easy for him, but I’m not afraid to work for what I want, no matter what is required of me."

"I dream of being a Curse-breaker after I’m done at Hogwarts. The logical challenge and the danger, the travel, and the rewards if you succeed are a dream within a dream for me. At first I thought maybe an Auror but my brother’s already taken up that position, so I’m definitely NOT going to be one."

"You just don’t stop, do you? Bloody hell…. My family consists of one overbearing father, an overprotective mother, my ‘perfect’ older brother and my annoying older sister. And then there’s me, the disappointment, the unwanted ‘oops’ child. That what you wanted to hear? Or did you expect some lovey story of how great my family is, how I’m the cherished youngest that gets away with everything…? My brother Zaine was the firstborn and my parents treat him like he craps gold. He can do no wrong. He’s ten years older than me, going to be twenty-six soon, can’t remember when his birthday is and don’t care. My sister Zara is twenty-three and seems to live to make my life hell. I’m glad she’s moved out, at least, and that both of them are old enough I never really had to see them in school.

“I’ve always been a small for my age and my mother seems to think that means I can’t take care of myself. On top of being the youngest, being born premature makes her baby me all the time and it’s become rather unbearable. Whereas my mother smothers me, my father doesn’t seem to want anything to do with me…. Nothing I do is ever good enough for him, we’ve had our fair share of shouting matches, usually makes my mum cry. We’ll just say he’s made it clear how he feels about me, and it isn’t exactly what a son wants to hear from his father.

“My family always compares me to my brother. I guess my sister is immune to being compared because she’s a girl, I dunno. She follows him around like his shadow, though… I’d swear she’s in love with him or something. Anyway when I came to Hogwarts I was already sick of being compared to Mr. Golden Boy Zaine, sick of the way I’d been treated by my ‘Gryffindor’ family. I wanted nothing to do with Gryffindor. Almost before the Sorting Hat touched my head it placed me in Slytherin. I was relieved, happy even. I would not live in Zaine’s shadow any longer. After my mother found out I’d been sorted into Slytherin, she even backed off a little, she doesn’t baby me so much. My father got worse after that but….

“Being sorted into Slytherin is the best thing that’s happened to me so far, I can finally begin to be my own person instead of being judged against my brother’s achievements. Even if I haven’t really made many friends because of your typical Slytherin reputation, or even within my own House, I don’t really need anyone anyway; I’m used to being alone. Now I just have to get through school and I can get far away from my family and never look back."
