-Character History-
Lucas Bennis was the only child born to Jacob Bennis, the Dutch Ambassador to the Ministry of Magic, and his wife Liesbeth, a wealthy socialite. He was born and raised in England, although his summers were often spent with his maternal grandparents in Rotterdam. After finishing Hogwarts, he moved back to the Netherlands and began working at the Raad van Magie (The Council of Magic, the Dutch version of MoM). It was at his first job, undersecretary to the Minister of International Trade, that he Cornelia De Witt, a young witch who was working for a large company that imported magical plants from all over the world.
Cornelia, who had just graduated from Beauxbaton, had dreamed of starting her own apothecary, but had been forced into her current job after her father died. She didn’t mind the job so much, once it started bringing her into contact with Lucas.
They had a short courtship, and married in a quiet service with just his parents and her mother. Lucas’ mother disapproved of the union greatly, as the De Witt’s, although pureblood, as far back as anyone could tell, were of a substantially lower class than she and her husband were.
Lucas continued to move up in the Raad and Cornelia was able to quit her job and open a small apothecary out of their house. A little over a year after their marriage, Cornelia gave birth to their first child Sebastiaan. Three years later, Marius was born. At this point, Lucas was working as a high ranking official in the Department of International Relations, and Cornelia had put her work on the backburner to take care of her two children.
On July 13, 1995, Cornelia gave birth to their third and final child, Chantal. Chantal was doted on from the second she was brought home from the hospital. Her mother had desperately wanted a daughter, and her brothers were at the ages where they found babies fascinating. She was never left alone for a second. Even her father spent more time at home with the children after she was born. She grew up pampered, but was always a sweet child.
When she was four, Lucas was transferred back to England, to work under his father, who was preparing to retire, and was intent on his son getting his job. Just after Sebastiaan left for his first year of school, the rest of the family packed up and moved to a large country house in England.
In England, Chantal spent her time split between the country home of her parents, and her grandparents’ townhouse in London. Her grandmother took over almost all of the responsibility of teaching her and Marius everything they needed to know before starting school. She hired tutors, something that Cornelia would have never done, and encouraged Chantal to take up music. Although her voice and piano skills were decent, she never enjoyed them the way she enjoyed digging in the garden with her mother. In an attempt to win the (imagined) competition for her granddaughter, she found a ballet teacher who agreed to give Chantal private lessons, and that was something that Chantal greatly enjoyed.
Before long, it was time for Marius to leave for school as well. He chose to follow his brother’s footsteps and chose to go to school in the Netherlands. Chantal was lonely without her brothers around, but without them both her parents and grandparents only had her to dote on. Her grandmother began inviting her over for tea, which meant that she got to dress up, but also that she had to sit quietly while a bunch of old witches gossiped about stuff that she had never heard of.
When it was time for Chantal to leave for school, she was faced with a difficult decision. Neither one of her brothers had chosen to go to Hogwarts, and although she wanted to be at school with them, she wanted to go to an English-speaking school (Her mediocre Dutch would have held her back in Holland). She was terrified for the short time between when she made her decision and when she began meeting people on the Hogwarts Express. Although she missed her brothers, Hogwarts was the right choice for her. She was sorted into Hufflepuff.

Sample RP: One last look in the mirror, a smidge of lipgloss, and perfect. Chantal picked up her purse from where she had left it on the bed, and replaced her lipgloss, glancing through to make sure that her wand, her coin purse, and her small hairbrush were all there.
“Chanty! Let’s go! We have a lot of shopping to do today.”
Normally those words would have made the ever-graceful Chantal Bennis tear down the stairs like the house was burning to the ground, but today her mother meant school shopping, the worst kind of shopping. Uniforms and books were all they would be buying. With that in mind, she slipped her purse over her shoulder and made her way down the stairs. She stepped into the parlor just as her mother was about to call for her again.
“Couldn’t we side-along? I hate taking the floo.” She gave her mother her best wide-eyed plaintive stare, until the older woman shrugged her shoulders and gave in.
Chantal immediately smiled and ran over to her mother. She gripped her mother’s arm and a second later felt that uncomfortable pinching, that was over a second later, as the two women found themselves in the center of bustling Diagon Alley. “Oh, let’s get ice cream first? Yes?”
