-Character History-
Johnathan has a deep seated paranoia, which caused him to leave home at the age of ten, due to crippling fear of his parents. He wandered around in the Nevada desert for a week, eating lizards, drinking from cacti--a trick he learned on a Saturday morning cartoon--when he discovered that he wasn't crazy, he could make water appear from nowhere.
He lived in the desert for about a month, with a constant supply of water, and plenty of animals for food, and then came back to his home.
Sometime during his time of absence, his parents had received his letter from the nearest American wizarding institution--and had thankfully received a visit that same day from the Headmaster of the American school, otherwise they would have continued to look at the acception letter as someone's sick joke--and they told little Johnny Tomlinson that he was a wizard.
Suddenly, it all made sense, John realized, and immediately consented to return to his parents care and then attend school come the fall.
At age sixteen, John had completely stopped attending school, and had run away from home, indefinitely. He then took up wandering the United States, having decided he'd learned enough magic from the unbelievers in that school, and used his magic to sustain himself. He also started being known not as Johnny Tomlinson, but as Jack Cross, a nickname he got from another child at school. About halfway through the year 2047, Jack Cross found himself in the United Kingdom, more specifically, the Scotland/Britain border, his last known location.
Cross is wanted by the American Wizarding government in relation with a number of deaths.

Jack sighed, deeply, looking ahead of himself.
He was kneeling in St. Michael's Church in Camden town, praying for guidance. It wasn't really the right kind of church, but he remembered one of the things mother had said before she died that was actually right.
"They're all houses of God, John."
He evened out his breathing, and stood up, blessing himself, and heading for the entrance of the church. He would have to think about this in the open air; he couldn't come up with any answers on his own.
Jack Cross had relied on the Lord since he was ten years old. When he had gotten lost in the desert, he had heard the voice of God.
"John," God had said.
"Yes?" Johnny Tomlinson asked, laying in the sand, sweating, starving.
"Do you know my name?"
"Yes," Johnny Tomlinson answered.
"Good, my son," God answered. "You know, you remember those old cartoons on Saturday Mornings that you watched when your parents weren't around?"
Johnny screwed his face up; he knew that was a sin, and he shouldn't have done it--
"No, no," God said. "Don't worry about that. Television isn't a sin, John. After all, I made it, didn't I?"
John couldn't argue with that. He opened his eyes, looking up, and around. He blinked a few times, and lay his face back in the sand.
"Do you remember, John?"
John nodded his head, weakly. The sand under his face was cooler than the sun; his shadow had lowered the temperature by a few degrees.
"Do you remember how they drank water from the cacti?" God asked.
Johnny Tomlinson did.
"You can too, John. You just have to wave your hands in front of this cactus," Johnny's eyes opened, and there was suddenly a shadow over his head. "and say the magic words."
Johnny thought magic was a sin?
"I made it, John," God said.
You did, sir, that you did.
So Johnny looked, and sure enough, there was a cactus there. He looked at his hands, weakly, thinking.
Magic words?
"You know them, John, deep inside your heart. Just wave your hands and think hard enough."
Johnny Tomlinson did, and water started pouring from the side of the cactus. He immediately opened his mouth, drinking the liquid which would help him survive.
Jack had wandered a fair distance from the church, and he overheard some passerby. A pair of women, from the voices.
"He bought it in Hogsmeade, apparently there's a really nice store there..."
Hogsmeade, Jack thought. That was the sign from God he was waiting for!
He decided the first order of business would be to follow that voice and find out where the devil Hogsmeade was. He reached a hand into his pocket, grasping his wand, and turned, walking after the pair of older women.
