-Character History-
(from birth to now, school experience included)
It was a chilly spring night in the London general hospital area. On floor five, room eight-teen, Lily and David Miller were looking down at their new baby girl, wondering how they ended up with such a beautiful daughter. She had her father’s eyes and hair, both dark brown. However she had her mother’s beautiful smile. “Look Lily,”smiled her husband, “she is smiling at you.” The two companions looked down at their daughter. She was staring at them with a smile on her little face. Then another thought occurred to the husband and wife, what were they going to name her? Just as quickly as the thought had formed, it had been answered, “I know what we should name her!” yelled a familiar high pitched voice from behind the hospital curtain. It was then flung open to reveal a boy with deep blue eyes and auburn coloured hair. Both his parents looked at him waiting for a name to come out of their son’s mouth. After about two minutes silence he spoke again, but this time his voice was barley a whisper. “Stephanie Anne.” he looked around wondering if they had heard him, “I think you should name her Stephanie Anne.” David and Lily looked at each other, both thinking the same thing, but Lily was the one to break the silence. “Okay Nate,” she said with a grin “meet your new sister, Stephanie Anne.” Lily looked up at her partner for an approving nod and there it was, on the face of the man she loved. She looked down at her son who was trying to get onto the bed that was holding his mother and now his little sister. “I think I will take Nathan home.” smiled David. “Actually, I would like you guys to stay” replied his wife. They all fell asleep, David in the chair next to the bed hold his wife’s hand and Lily with Nathan on the bed.
Two Septembers later, Stephanie was heading to pre-school. Have a good day her father had said before leaving for work that morning. Stephanie was terrified of her first day and wouldn’t let go of the kitchen table leg. She was refusing to go to school. Her reasoning for not going was that she wouldn’t know anyone. “That is why you make new friends hunny” Lily replied softly.
After about another twenty minutes of struggling and reasoning Stephanie was finally off to school. When she got there she wouldn’t let her mom go, but then a little boy walked over to Stephanie, “Do you want to play with me?” asked the little blue eyed boy. He was grinning at Stephanie. She looked at her mom, who gave her a reassuring look and a little nudge, and then walked over and grabbed the boy’s hand. “What is your name?” she asked quietly. He didn’t answer right away but then she heard his answer, “Christopher Wood, yours?” he replied. She hesitated but then stated matter-of-factly “Stephanie. Stephanie Miller”. When the time to go had come, Stephanie and Christopher both left.
Three more years pass and Steph and Chris are still friends. They both have learned that they can do things that other kids their age can’t. “My mom is a witch, dad’s a wizard.” said Chris proudly. Stephanie listened to all the fascinating stories Christopher told her everyday by the hollow tree in the school yard. She couldn’t figure out why her friend was going to a school full of regular people if he was a pureblood wizard. Chris had told her all about Hogwarts and all about the wizarding bank, gringolts? she thought, no that can’t be right. Umm… “GRINGGOTTS!” she looked around wondering who had heard her. To her right a couple of girls that called her ‘Silly Steph’ were laughing. Her grandmother Luna had told her all about kids calling her ‘Loony Lovegood’, but said to not let it bother her or they would just make it worse.
When Stephanie was a little girl, she had a bed time routine. While David was away on business trips, Lily would read Steph stories from the book ‘The Tales of Beedle The Bard’. She loved these stories even more than ‘Cinderella’ or ‘The Frog Prince’. Her favorite was ‘The Fountain of Fair Fortune’. Her mother had also started to read her ‘Quidditch Through The Ages’. Stephanie was fascinated by Quidditch, she swore that when she was able to play at Hogwarts she was going to tryout for any position, but in her mind she really wanted to be the Seeker and catch that amazing little gold ball called the Golden Snitch.
Grandma Luna always said how much Stephanie was like her, however Luna’s hair was a beautiful, silky blonde and her eyes were a brilliant, robin’s egg blue. Stephanie always knew she got Grandpa Neville’s eyes and hair, he might not have had such dark features but Steph did represent him.
Stephanie’s mother was the daughter of Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom, making her Lily Longbottom. This made Steph the granddaughter of Luna and Neville Longbottom. She liked going to see her grandparents, they always told her stories about Mr. Harry Potter, Mr. Ron Weasley and Ms. Hermione Granger. Stephanie always wondered how three of the most famous people became friends with her ridiculous grandparents, they were pretty awesome though considering her grandfather was the one to kill Lord Voldemort’s precious snake and last Horcrux that Harry Potter needed dead, Nagini, I think? she thought to herself. Grandpa Neville always told Stephanie that story; she could recite it off by heart. She looked up to both her grandparents and wondered how they could be so brave.
Stephanie’s little brother Jesse was born four months before her father’s death. His death was devastating for everyone in the house hold especially Stephanie. Everyone went to the funeral, Chris and his family, a couple of Nathan’s friends and their families. Her mother's family. And her father’s family. About three weeks after the death of her husband, Stephanie’s mom sent her and Nathan to their grandparents. Lily had told Luna and Neville to keep the two oldest ones until they left for Hogwarts. The death of Steph’s father happened six weeks before Nathan and herself were scheduled to go to Hogwarts so, Luna and Neville took them to Diagon Ally to get their school supplies. Stephanie told them she had her list and needed everything on it. Steph had been waiting for this day and wrote exactly what things she wanted and needed on the list:
My List
Since the death of her father, Stephanie has not heard from her mother. A couple days after Stephanie and Nathan got to Hogwarts they each got a letter telling them that Jesse was with Grandma and Grandpa Longbottom. The letter also stated that Lily had ran off and was not heard from since. Now when Nathan and Steph were going home they would go to their Grandparents house and stay there. This led up to the reason Stephanie talked so much about them.
When Stephanie first got to the Kings Cross, she had no idea where platform 9 and ¾ was. It wasn’t until Nathan ran through what looked like solid wall that she realized that it was a magical passage. She ran through with Grandma Luna and saw the ‘Hogwarts Express’. It was beautiful. “Grandma?” she asked, “who will I sit with?”her voice was shaky and quiet. “I guess it depends how, who and why you pick that certain trolley, won’t it?”her grandmother replied. Sometimes grandma is so hard to understand, thought Stephanie. The train whistle blew meaning it was time to get on the train, Steph scurried on and put her trunk along with her new owl, Altheda(from her favorite story ‘The Fountain of Fair Fortune’), and ran to the nearest window to wave her grandparents good-bye.
When the train started moving, Steph quickly found a seat with a couple students she didn’t recognize. She got up twice, the whole ride. Once to get some snacks off the food trolley and the second time was to use the bathroom. The whole ride to Hogwarts she wondered if the train was ever going to stop. When the engine finally came to a stop, Steph looked out at her surroundings and then realized that she was going to take a boat to the castle. Excitement was filling her so she didn’t realize that someone from behind her was calling her name. When she got in the boat she noticed a familiar face. “Chris!?” she said. It was Chris, her old childhood friend.
When they were up at the castle thoughts of getting put into the wrong house were going though Stephanie’s head. She wanted to be like Grandma, who was put in Ravenclaw but she also wanted to be like Grandpa and mom, who got put in Gryffindor. She just hoped the Sorting Hat would choose the right houses.
Through out Stephanie’s first year she made a lot of new friends. Her favorite classes were Flying, Defense against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Potions and Charms. When the year finished, it brought disappointment to Stephanie Miller but she knew that next year would be just as good, if not better. She was looking forward to her second year at Hogwarts because now she could take one elective instead of flying which she was already good at. Steph was thinking of Care for Magical Creatures, it sounded interesting. After an amazing first year Steph can’t wait to get back to Hogwarts, her friend and all the new magic to come.
Look out Hogwarts here comes the next Luna Lovegood.

As she walked through the dimly lit hallway toward the bedroom, she had hundreds of thoughts going through her mind. Before pushing open the door she took a deep breath, this is it, she thought I have to talk to him. Right now. Before it’s to late. She had never been in this particular bedroom before. It was a surprise when she walked through the French doors into the shadowy bedroom. Looking around she saw it had a queen sized bed in the middle of it, a chest of drawers to the right and a bathroom and closet to the left. It was cool in this particular room. It made Stephanie feel empty inside when she stood in this ‘prison’ as she referred to it. When she looked over at the bed and saw him, laying there, looking like some sort of vegetable. She walked over to the chair they had made that one day when it had started raining with the scent of freshly cut grass in the air. Stephanie pulled it close to the bed where he was laying, not moving. She couldn’t contain herself anymore, she burst into tears and started trying to speak to her immobile father. “I don’t understand……..how…..this could….happen to….you daddy…” she said faintly, taking deep breaths while trying to calm herself. She hadn’t called him daddy in six years, causing more tears to fall onto the covers. She didn’t know why she had come in here, it was just causing her more pain. As Stephanie got up, ready to leave, she felt a sharp pull on her left arm. Looking down at it she realized that her dad had grabbed her arm, and with great force for such a sick man. His hands were still as soft as they had been a year ago, before he had gotten sick. Steph looked over to his left hand which was clenched so tightly in a fist that it was turning white. He had something in it.
She sat back down and reached for it but he did not release it. He held it near his heart and then she heard the faintest noise escape his brittle lips. “Wear it everyday, okay?” he whispered to Stephanie, she nodded not knowing why,“I love you Stephanie. Wear it to remember me Steph. I know I am dieing, I can not deny it. No one can.” he finished. Very slowly he opened his hand and placed a key that had the words ‘Forever&Always’ engraved in it into hers. “Dad?” Stephanie glanced up, he gave a little, painful nodded for her to continue, “What if no one at Hogwarts likes me? What if I don’t make any friends? Why do you have to go? I want you to stay, I’ve barley known you.” said the girl that wanted to be five years old again. There was a minute silence and then he answered her questions. “You will do fine,” he replied “You always do. Fate has chosen me to go and be your angel Steph. You know me as well as I know myself.” he gave her the slightest grin and then looked up at the ceiling. She took the necklace that he had given her and put it on.
“I must go now.” he said, “I am getting a call.” Stephanie looked at him in disbelief. She hadn’t been expecting this. “No! Daddy please, don’t go! I love you daddy, I love you!” she pleaded, tears filling her eyes again but he was already gone and she knew it but she kept pleading. “Daddy please, please! It’s not funny. The joke has gone too far!” she was yelling now. Stephanie wished she could be any place but here, at the side of the bed where her father had just died, right before her own eyes. She heard faint footsteps and then the door opened and her mother came striding into the room and picked Stephanie up in her warm, comforting arms and started cradling her. Steph continued to cry but her mom just kept whispering to her “Shh, shh, it’s okay, it’s okay.” but they both knew it wasn’t.
The next three weeks were awful. There were so many tears in the house that it felt like they could flood the house. About a week after her conversation with her father, Stephanie couldn’t cry anymore. All her tears had been shed. When she did cry she tried to do it at night so her family would think she was strong and try to do the same. Their grandparents arrived at the house two days after David’s death. They were there to support Lily and the kids.
The funeral was small. “It’s okay Steph,”Chris soothed “I’m here if you need me.”. Stephanie just started crying harder. Everyone wore yellow to the funeral. “It is his favorite colour and we are going to wear it!” exclaimed Luna “We wouldn’t want to upset the ‘Crumple Horned Snorlaxes’ would we?” Stephanie started to laugh, her grandmother was always saying weird things like that. That’s probably where she got it from. Oh grandma, Steph thought to herself, you always seem to make me laugh, even on the saddest days.
It was time to go to Hogwarts and Stephanie was really excited. “Take this Smiley Stephanie.” Neville handed Stephanie a galleon. “Grandpa!” she cried “I don’t need this and besides, it’s yours!”. Why was grandpa Neville giving her a galleon, she didn’t need money for school. “It is not money, Steph. It is a way for us to communicate without using owls. I used it when I needed to connect with people on the outside of the castle and needed back up the year I killed that horrid snake.” Stephanie couldn’t wait to tell all the kids at school how her grandparents were friend with Harry Potter and how they were heros. “Thank you Grandpa, I will keep it with me wherever I go.” she smiled.
