Rhyna was the result of a ‘birthday surprise’ for her mother from her father. Her parents were less than thrilled with their unexpected gift but they kept her anyways. Her early childhood was a parade of nannies and babysitters, combined with ‘early education’ systems. When she was five she started regular schooling and her parents made her work hard. But no matter how hard she worked she still seemed to be behind all the other kids. A trouble maker, a slacker. If they were making ‘hand turkeys’ she was likely turning it into some strange creature of another sort.
Her favorite class was history, or more accurately the mythology that went along with it. She didn’t care about the heros, but she loved to learn about the monsters. Cerberus, the Hydra, the Manticore, the Chimera, the Japanese Tankui and Kitsune, the dragon slain by St. George, even simple vampires and werewolves drew her in. It never made any sense to her parents or teachers.
Not until her eleventh birthday, when a certain, special letter came to her. Her parents were dumbfounded. She was delighted. However, Hogwarts was not all it was cracked up to be. She stumbled her way through her first five years, her grades picking up when she could drop any and all classes that she no longer could work with easily and focused only on her better ones. Halfway through her sixth year her parents were killed when they walked in on a robbery at their house. She spent her final summer with an aunt and uncle in France before returning to school, determined to learn everything she could so that she could become a professor herself after graduating.
