((Disclaimer: All of my lessons will be different. Some of them will be like this one, where I will give the instructions and each student will describe doing the course work and I will give help whenever it is needed. Others will be where I will start a discussion and go on asking questions as the lesson progresses, it just depends on what the topic is. Just thought I’d give you a heads up))
It was Mikayla’s first lesson as Herbology Professor and she was defiantly more nervous that she had been in her entire life. She had never taught anything before; she hadn’t even tutored people during her years in school. But she did have a vast knowledge of everything that had to do with magical plants. She kept this detail a secret from most people who knew her and it would probably be a surprise to some of her lower year friends when they showed up in class and saw her as a teacher. She hadn’t told anyone except for Kite and Zeke that she had gotten the job and she was also nervous that the two of them might be in her class.
The lesson today would be to tell the difference between Spiky Bushes and Spiky Prickly Plants. They were very similar plants, but both plants took a different spell to make it stop shooting thorns at people; this is what they would cover in their lesson. She had arranged the tables so that there were two long tables in the middle of the room and the plants they would be working with were a good 15 feet away from the tables. The plants were in two separate trays: the Spiky Bush in A and the Spiky Prickly Plant in B. There were enough trays for each student to get their own set of plants so they could practice the defending spells on each plant.
As the students started filing in Mikayla warned the students about the plants. [green] I must advise all of you to stay as far away from those plants as you possibly can. They are very defensive plants and if you get too close, they will not hesitate to shoot those thorns at you. [/green] She hoped the students listened to her and went straight to their chairs without bothering the plants. She wasn’t good at healing and she didn’t feel like having someone get sent to the hospital wing during her first lesson.
Once all the students were in their seats, she began her lesson. [green] Good afternoon class. My name is Professor Menki and I am the new Herbology professor. Some of you may know me from being a student last year, but I’d still like for you to call me Professor Menki while we’re in class. [/green] She sighed, her nerves building up as she hated speaking in front of people, but she pressed forward. [green] Today we will be learning about two different but very similar plants: the Spiky Bush and the Spiky Prickly Plant. It’s going to be a very easy assignment, just to get everyone used to the class. The plants I am going to show you have already been stunned (or whatever you call it) so they will not attack anymore; yours will not be so forgiving. I advise you to listen carefully as I will only be saying this once and I will not write down any sort of directions. [/green] She turned around and picked up a pot containing a green, albeit a bit shriveled bush with numerous thorns that were the same color as the plant protruding out of it. [green] This, class, is the Spiky Bush and is more or less a very violent weed as it has no known uses. By violent, I mean that these bushes, although they may look harmless from a distance, will attack you when they feel threatened, or when you get too close. To get rid of this particular bush, it is best to use Incendio charm to burn it. [/green] She demonstrated this on another unharmed plant that was on the other end of the room. Incendio! She said clearly, so the students would know exactly what to do, and the plant burst into flames until it looked very similar to the plant she held in her hand.
She place the plant back where it was and picked up another plant, this one not in a pot, but severed at the stem. [green] This plant, is the Spiky Prickly Plant and as you can see by just looking at it, has distinct yellow thorns that make it easy to tell apart from its relative over there. [/green] She gestured to the plant she had just burned. [green] This plant is just as defensive as the other so when it feels threatened, it will shoot these thorns at you to protect itself if you get too close. The proper way to get rid of these plants is to use the Severing Charm to cut it at its stem and thereby killing it. This spell, for those of you who don’t know is Diffindo. [/green] She demonstrated, as she did with the first plant by pointing her wand at an unharmed Spiky Prickly Plant next to the shrivled Spiky Bush she had just demonstrated on. Diffindo! She said clearly, again to properly demonstrate the spell, and the plant was cut at its stem and fell out of the pot.
[green] Now, each of you have a tray containing these two plants. Once I am done here, I want you all to take a couple steps towards them; no more than 3, it all depends on how confindent you are with your aim. You will need to perform the proper spells for each plant to get rid of them the way that I did. Be warned, if you use the wrong spell on one of the plants, it will not destroy it, and the plant will probably get angry and start shooting its thorns at you, so I hope you all have good memories. My example will be sitting out if you need to see it as a reference, but as most of you are advanced students, you shouldn’t have trouble remembering which spell goes with which plant just by looking at the example. [/green] She smiled, hoping they were all ready for the task she had presented them with. [green] Present your completed work to me before the end of class and….if you do end up needing help, don’t hesitate to ask.[/green] She let out a sigh of relief as she sat down behind her desk. She hoped she explained everything well enough so that it could be understood.
((Yeah so, just explain what your student does, and if they do provoke the plants, don’t make the injuries too bad, just a couple of scratches here and there. Sound good? Now…go!))
