It was shortly after dusk, dinner had already been served and classes were over for the day. Syrus sat in a quiet, out of the way corner of the common room in what could be referred to as a ‘love seat’, a small couch suitable for two, only he was the only occupant at the moment he rather planned to keep it that way. He was stretched out on it, his feet propped up on one end and his back against the other. He was reading, his usual pastime, though for once it wasn’t a school text but a work of fiction for a more leisurely read. A Clash of Kings, it was called. He had picked it up at a muggle bookstore before returning to Hogwarts after finishing the first book, A Game of Thrones, along with two other sequels. He hadn’t been able to find the fifth book, which was disappointing.
He wasn’t exactly certain when he’d next have a chance to visit a muggle bookstore in search of it, unless he decided to go ‘home’ for the holidays which was about as appealing as being mauled by a lion… actually it wasn’t far from the truth of it; Gryffindor’s symbol was a lion, after all, and his father had been a Gryffindor…. He wasn’t sure whether the thought amused or disgusted him more. With a brief shake of his head he returned to his reading. Lions… lions played a part in his book as well, the symbol of the Lannister House, and he liked them no better than his family or the rest of Gryffindor house. Come to think of it, the Lannisters and the Gryffindors shared the same colors as well as the same symbol, red and gold. Well, wasn’t that interesting…?
He felt slightly sick at the similarity and was beginning to dislike both houses, real and fictional, even more. With a long sigh he rested the open book over his eyes, his head tilted back slightly, trying to get the most unpleasant thoughts from his head. Why did he dwell on such things so often these days? He could really use a good distraction… a real good distraction. He hoped this new similarity would not ruin this book series for him, he had rather enjoyed reading it before he had started over thinking things. Now…. He sighed once more, eyes closed, wondering whether or not he should just return to his school texts and leave A Clash of Kings alone for now, until he’d sufficiently distracted himself.
